A look at the Commission's work in 2023, the year it became the first of the 40 access to justice commissions in the United States to be recognized in state law (Government Code sections 68655–68659). The Legislature also authorized and funded the Commission to run a Loan Repayment Assistance Program to help legal aid organizations hire and keep lawyers.
The Commission continued to award $4.8 million a year in Infrastructure & Innovation Grants. With the Council of County Law Librarians, it also launched “Your Life, Your Plan,” which offers self-help with end-of-life planning, supported by pro bono lawyers, to seniors and people with serious health conditions.
