The fourth paper in the Rural Justice Policy Paper Series looks at the role and potential of legal technology to meet the access-to-justice needs of rural Californians. It covers the rural–urban digital divide, the State Bar's Task Force on Access Through Innovation of Legal Services (ATILS), funding sources, and practical steps to strengthen the legal safety net.
It recommends continued funding for legal aid innovation, especially in rural areas, and closer collaboration between the for-profit and nonprofit legal tech sectors and access-to-justice groups.
